Auto-save form drafts as you type

Saves form field content in the browser and restores it if the page is reloaded.

Code to copy

var prefix = 'jz-draft:' + location.pathname + ':';
var fields = document.querySelectorAll('textarea, input[type="text"], input[type="email"], input[type="search"]');
fields.forEach(function (field, i) {
  var key = prefix + (field.name || field.id || 'f' + i);
  try {
    var saved = localStorage.getItem(key);
    if (saved && !field.value) { field.value = saved; }
  } catch (e) {}
  field.addEventListener('input', function () {
    try {
      if (field.value) { localStorage.setItem(key, field.value); }
      else { localStorage.removeItem(key); }
    } catch (e) {}
  });
});
